The University of Montana School of Social Work was honored with a national innovation award for expanding equitable access to social work field education across rural regions. The recognition highlights flexible practicum models enabling students to serve local communities while completing degrees.

With high demand among applicants and targeted efforts toward addressing rural healthcare shortages statewide, university officials say they hope graduates will serve critical roles across Montana.
Joseph Crider spent this past school year bringing real-world classroom experience into teacher preparation courses at the University of Montana’s College of Education. After years in elementary classrooms across several states, he is now joining UM’s Center for the Advancement of Positive Education to support K-12 educators statewide.
