The City of Missoula and Missoula County have released a conceptual master plan for Marshall Mountain Park, which is open for public review on engagemissoula.com through Monday, June 19. The plan incorporates community engagement and feedback from residents and user groups. The master plan includes both immediate improvements for safety and public access, such as trailhead enhancements, parking improvements, and ADA access, as well as long-term development opportunities at the park. Future developments would depend on securing external funding and critical partnerships.

While the master plan guides potential future development, it remains flexible to accommodate phased implementation based on available funding. Decisions regarding the park will be informed by various factors, including grant funding requirements, regulations, infrastructure needs, programs, partnerships, and funding availability.

Missoula County, the City of Missoula, and community partners are working together to secure permanent public ownership of Marshall Mountain Park. The proposed acquisition aims to prevent private sale and closure of the base area to the public. The City and County would share operational costs under the proposed ownership model.

Extensive public engagement processes are underway, involving City and County agencies, advisory committees, and community partners. Funding for the acquisition of the park includes voter-approved Open Space Bond funds, as well as state, federal, and private grants. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback on the conceptual master plan through engagemissoula.com and stay updated on the project through missoulacountyvoice.com.
