Rep. Ryan Zinke, U.S. Congressman representing Montana’s 1st district since 2023, has recently posted a series of updates on social media regarding public land legislation and an unfolding situation in Anaconda.
On July 31, 2025, Zinke stated, “Montana’s public land and water belong to all of us. This legislation strikes the right balance between sustainable use and preservation of our resources.”
The following day, August 1, 2025, he expressed gratitude for collaborative efforts in shaping recent legislation: “Good legislation comes from the ground up, not from the top down. I want to thank Outlaw Partners, @americanrivers, @GYCnews, @GalRivTaskForce, @AmerWhitewater, @TheTRCP, @NWEinfo, the Madison and Gallatin County Commissioners and many more for supporting and helping to craft the”.
Later that same day on August 1, Zinke addressed a developing emergency: “My office is closely monitoring the situation in Anaconda. Conflicting reports of casualties and location of the shooter. Anyone in Anaconda should stay inside and lock their doors. Much is still unknown and the assailant is still not in custody. Heed direction from law”.
Zinke has represented Montana’s 1st District since replacing Steve Daines in Congress in 2023. Prior to his current role in Congress, he served in the Montana Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Bozeman in 1961 and currently residing in Whitefish at age 61, Zinke holds degrees from both the University of Oregon (1984) and National University (1991).
