Glacier Country Tourism released a new marketing video to encourage people to "Love now, explore later" when planning a trip to Montana.
The message the video gives isn't typical for travel advertising, but Glacier Country Tourism President and CEO Racene Friede told KPAX it was appropriate advertising for the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We had just started our warm season campaign two weeks before this hit," Friede told KPAX. "And what we did is hit pause immediately on all our paid marketing. It just, for one, it's just not appropriate. But two, we also want to make sure that the time is right."
Friede said it was a difficult video to put together because no one in the tourism sector wants to discourage tourists from visiting.
"We have to one, talk about us. We have to talk about our communities and what we're doing for them. And that we have to concentrate on our own health and safety. It's hard for us to say 'don't come.' It's a really hard message for us. But [it] is absolutely the right message right now,” Friede told KPAX.
She also told the station the hope is that people are still showing interest in visiting Montana; however, they will have to wait until the pandemic passes.
"We know that people love Montana. And this is just kind of a love video to them," Friede said.
