Education advocates who requested money from Gov. Steve Bullock from the Montana Coronavirus Relief Fund for COVID-19 precautions and distance learning were recently answered with a $75 million response.
Schools will still have to certify with the state how they intend to use the funds they are eligible for by demonstrating a coronavirus-related need, according to a release from the governor’s office.
Of the total, $10 million will be held back for distribution once schools have finalized their transportation budgets, according to the release. The remaining $65 million will be distributed to schools that successfully apply for the money based on expected enrollment – called ANB in government documents – for the coming school year.
Previously, Montana schools had received $41 million from the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund program, but advocates felt more was needed, according to the release.
Bullock also authorized a bulk purchase of personal protective equipment to be distributed to schools.
