Cost of college went up for all students at The University of Montana

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.6 percent for 2018-19 at The University of Montana, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Montana residents paid $7,244 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $181 more than the $7,063 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 244.5 percent more than residents this year, or $24,959. Their price tag grew 0.1 percent from $24,943 in 2017-18.

About 66 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Montana residents. About 33 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 89 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,127 students received grants or scholarships totaling $6.8 million and 890 students took out student loans totaling more than $5.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (10,962), 5,756 students used grants or scholarships totaling $32.2 million, and 4,692 students took out $34.9 million in federal student loans.
