DESCRIPTION
The Environmental Law Group is excited to announce its first annual Environmental Law Fall Film Festival on the Oval starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18. The event will raise money for the Montana Wilderness Association's work preserving Badger-Two Medicine.
The Festival will feature the film Our Last Refuge, which details Blackfeet Nation's fight to protect Badger-Two Medicine, their tribal homelands and significant wildlife habita, from industrial development. Since 1980s, the Blackfeet have blocked industrial development from drilling in the area. Most recently, the Blackfeet drafted legislation that would permanently protect the Badger-Two Medicine as a "cultural heritage area." The designation would be the first of its kind in the nation and could lay the foundation for a new system of protecting land.
Our Last Refuge is about 30 minutes long. The screening will be followed by another short environmental film, to be determined.
Event details:
When: Friday, Sept. 18. "Doors" at 7:30 p.m., remarks at 8 p.m., movie at 8:15 p.m.
Where: The Oval, UM Main Campus
The event is open to the public. Admission is free, though ELG is asking for a suggested $10 donation. Masks and 6ft social distancing required, per university policy.
Light refreshments will be served.
