Moody named to All-Tournament Team
After an all-time performance in leading Montana into the Big Sky semifinals, Aanen Moody was named to the league's All-Tournament Team. Moody scored a career high 28 points in the quarterfinal win over Idaho State, also dishing out a career high seven assists.
Moody had it going from the start, scoring 14 points in both halves to pace Montana's offense to a season-best 57.4 percent from the floor. The 83 points were also the second-most all year by Montana, and Moody scored or assisted on 43 of them.
It continued a hot run through the second half of play for the guard from Dickinson, North Dakota. He scored 20-plus points in six of the final eight games, leading Montana to a 7-1 record during the time.
Moody made a career-high 12 shots on Monday night, scoring all 28 of his points from the floor. It was just the fifth time all season he didn't make a free throw, but he didn't need it on a night that also saw him make 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from three-point range.
He ran into injury troubles and a Northern Arizona defense that denied him the ball all game in the semifinals and was limited to six points.
Moody led Montana with 16.1 points per game this season as an elite outside threat. He shot 40.7 percent from three to rank inside the top 20 nationally. He made a team high 70 three pointers, including at least one triple in every regular season game.
It was Moody's finish to the season that really captured the hearts of Montana fans. He scored a then-career high 26 points against Northern Colorado on Feb. 2 and would go on to match or exceed it twice more during the final month, including his tournament performance.
The ultimate showman, Moody loved playing in front of Dahlberg Arena. He averaged 18.9 points per game at home. He reached 1,000 career points earlier this year and since joining the NCAA in 2018-19, Moody is one of just 25 players to shoot better than 40 percent from three with at least 500 attempts.
He was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team last Thursday.
There is one more piece of good news for Montana fans. Moody has been granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return to Missoula for the 2023-24 season. He announced the news with the "Voice of the Griz" Riley Corcoran on the Inside the Den Podcast. The full interview can be heard below, and the announcement of his return is linked at the top of this story.
