WASHINGTON – Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke expressed his concern and disappointment following the recent announcements of closures of timber businesses in Montana.

“The announcement from Roseburg is another devastating blow to western Montana’s rich timber heritage and the greater community," Zinke stated.

Roseburg Forest Products and Pyramid Lumber, two well-established timber businesses in Montana, have recently declared their closures due to economic pressures. Zinke highlighted the challenges faced by these businesses, attributing them to various factors including the cost of manufacturing, energy, housing, inflation, and labor shortages.

Zinke emphasized the impact of mismanaged federal forests on the supply of raw materials, stating, "the farther raw materials have to travel the more expensive they become." He expressed concerns about potential further closures in the industry and pledged to advocate for forest management reforms and legislative measures to address economic challenges.

In response to the closures, Zinke extended his support to the affected workers, stating, "My heart goes out to all the workers who are impacted." Additionally, he mentioned that his office is working on compiling a list of area businesses in similar industries that are currently hiring.

The closures of Roseburg Forest Products and Pyramid Lumber have raised concerns about the future of Montana's timber industry and the local economy.
