Throughout December, individuals can reduce their outstanding parking citations by donating nonperishable food items to the Missoula Parking Commission. Each donated item will deduct $2 from a vehicle's balance, with a maximum of 10 items or $20 for the month. The collected food will be donated to the Missoula Food Bank to aid its mission for a hunger-free community.

The Food for Fines initiative was previously conducted from 2017 through 2019 before being paused due to the pandemic. In its last run in 2019, the program successfully gathered 636 pounds of food.

Donations can be made at the Parking Commission office located at 128 W. Main St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Dec. 25. Donors are reminded to ensure that items are undamaged, unopened, and not expired.
