The University of Montana is set to host its sixth annual day of giving, known as The Big Give, from noon on March 5 to noon on March 6. This event, organized by the UM Foundation, aims to encourage alumni, donors, parents, and friends to support students through charitable donations within a 24-hour period.
This year's theme for The Big Give is "Now and Forever UM," which marks the UM Foundation's 75th anniversary. Participants are encouraged to contribute in honor of the university's legacy in providing transformative education and opportunities for future leaders.
Donors have over 50 groups they can choose to support at SupportUM.org/BigGive. These include academic programs, student success initiatives like scholarships and the Military and Veteran Services Office, Grizzly Athletics, as well as campus resources such as the Montana Repertory Theatre. Early contributions of any size are welcomed and make a significant impact on students.
"Each year, The Big Give is a powerful demonstration of the remarkable giving community that surrounds the University of Montana," said Cindy Williams, President and CEO of the UM Foundation. "We invite everyone to participate in this annual giving day tradition that directly supports students in so many meaningful ways and inspires us all to think big about UM’s bright future."
The event offers various ways for involvement. Individuals can become Big Give Ambassadors via SupportUM.org/BigGive-Ambassadors to help raise awareness using #UMBigGive on social media. Ambassadors who make a donation and inspire two or more additional gifts through their unique link will receive a token of appreciation.
Donors have opportunities for matching gifts or challenges during the event. Progress can be tracked online via the event website or social media channels linked with UM and the UM Foundation.
A new feature this year is the Big Give Buggy offering rides across campus on March 5 from noon to 4 p.m., and March 6 from 9 a.m. until noon. Riders can participate in trivia questions and take photos for social media while enjoying their ride.
Students are invited to vote for one of five support areas eligible for an additional $1,000 gift under the Students’ Choice Award while riding the buggy or visiting The Big Give table at the University Center during March 5-6.
In its previous iteration in 2024, The Big Give set a record with over 840 donors contributing nearly $650,000 from across 45 states—surpassing prior records including $510,000 raised in 2023.
For those preferring offline contributions, donations may be mailed directly to the University of Montana Foundation or made via credit card by phone.
The event is managed by an independent nonprofit organization committed since 1950 to enhancing excellence at UM—the UM Foundation.
