The University of Montana is preparing to welcome its class of 2029 on Monday, August 18. Students from across the country will arrive throughout the day, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m., to start their academic journey at UM.

Incoming students will receive help during move-in from university employees, upper-class student volunteers, and community members. Media representatives interested in covering the event or speaking with arriving students and their parents are encouraged to contact Dave Kuntz, UM Director of Strategic Communications.

After move-in concludes on August 18, first-year students will begin orientation. The weeklong program, called the Big Sky Experience, is designed as an interactive introduction that emphasizes peer engagement and community support rather than traditional orientation activities.

Classes for all University of Montana students are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25. Further details about move-in day logistics, including parking information, can be found online through the university’s resources.

For more information or media inquiries, contact Dave Kuntz at 406-243-5659 or dave.kuntz@umontana.edu.
