Burn Permit Instructions and Information
RAVALLI COUNTY BURN PERMIT
Ravalli County residents can obtain, renew, or activate a Ravalli County Burn Permit. If you have a burn permit from prior years, please renew that permit. Residents can renew and use their old permits from year to year. If we want to continue with a free Burn Permit program – renew your old permits. If you have never obtained a Burn Permit – Obtain One Burn Permit for the year. You can obtain or renew a permit by going to
https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/ on the internet. Please note this is a new internet address that was implemented since 2021.
If you don’t have a smart phone or internet access – go to the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday between 1p.m. and 4p.m. and we can assist you.
Contact your local Fire Department to determine if they can assist you with obtaining or renewing a Burn Permit.
Local Libraries have internet access and may be able to assist with obtaining a Burn Permit.
Any questions can be answered by reviewing the Burn Permit information at Ravalli County.us, Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office App for smart devices, by contacting the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office (375-4060), or contacting your local Fire Chief.
If you have not had a Ravalli County Burn Permit in the past, you may obtain a Burn Permit on-line by going to https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/. If you have had a past permit, renew that permit. Once you are on the site:
Select “Start”.
Select “Ravalli” and “Continue”.
From the menu Select “Obtain a permit”.
Enter Name, Address, City, Zip Code, and Phone Number. Select “Continue”.
Confirm the address as the location of the burn or enter additional burn locations (User must Select Add Burn Location).
Select “I’m done adding burn locations”.
Edit information or Select “Information is Correct”.
Agree with Terms and Conditions by Selecting “I agree”.
Select “Continue”.
E-mail or print the permit.
If you had a past Ravalli County Burn Permit, you can renew your permit for the new season. This can be accomplished at the https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/ web page. To renew a permit, go to the web page, select Start, choose Ravalli County, select Continue, select Renew an existing permit, and update any information that has changed.
Burn Permits are free of charge and the permit is valid for the entire burn season (March 1st - November 30th).
We suggest that you print a copy of your Burn Permit or write the permit number down somewhere that you can find it so that you have access to the number when you wish to activate your permit on burning days, or stop by our Sheriff’s Office to get a burn permit instructional magnet.
If you lose your permit number, please contact the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and we can look up your Burn Permit number during normal business hours (375-4060). After hours and weekends/holidays you may contact the Ravalli County 911 Center at our non-emergency phone number (363-3033) to obtain your permit number; be prepared to be put on hold as our Communications Specialist respond to emergency calls.
Once you have a Burn Permit, you will have to activate the permit each day that you want to burn. Activation can be completed on-line (https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/) or by telephone (1-866-212-6318). The on-line activation does not cost Ravalli County anything. The telephone activation cost Ravalli County .15 cents per minute for the call. If you have access to the internet, please activate your Burn Permit on line to keep our costs down.
Internet and access tips:
When you want to access the burn permit internet site, enter https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/ in your domain field; this field is at the top left of your web browser screen. Delete all the characters in this field and type https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit/ and press enter. This will take you directly to the burn permit site.
You may go to our Ravalli County web page at Ravalli.US and click the Burn Permit menu. Click Obtain, Renew or Activate your Burn Permit and the web page will open the Burn Permit web page.
You can also access the burn site by downloading our Ravalli County Sheriff’s smart phone app. Once you have our app, scroll to the “More” icon and scroll down to “Burn Permits”. Choose “Links to Obtain/Activate Burn Permits” and it will take you directly to the burn permit site.
You can download our smart app by searching “Ravalli County Sheriff's Office” in your app store.
