The Street Maintenance Division of the city will commence milling and paving work on Eaton St., from S. 7th St. W. to S. 14th St. W., starting Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The completion of the project is anticipated by the week of May 20, depending on weather conditions. The working hours for this project are set from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Work on this section of Eaton St., which starts at S. 7th St. and extends south to S. 14th St., will be intermittent in nature. On-street parking will not be permitted during work hours; however, local access to homes and businesses will be sustained throughout the construction period.

Traffic will be rerouted via Kemp St., hence regular users of Eaton St. are advised to plan an alternate route during the construction phase.

Intermittent milling and paving projects such as this are essential for preserving street infrastructure by repairing damaged areas that permit water seepage into and beneath the pavement. Water can damage the street below its surface, particularly during winter when it undergoes freeze-thaw cycles, leading to asphalt breakage resulting in potholes and other forms of street damage. Undertaking these repairs now significantly prolongs the pavement's lifespan and defers more costly total reconstruction work in the future.

Additional information along with a construction area and detour map can be found at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2681/Street-Maintenance-Projects.
