Today, Congressman Ryan Zinke from Western Montana joined forces with Congresswoman Harriet Hagaman of Wyoming and seven other congressional members to address concerns about proposed changes by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). They have sent a letter to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) regarding USPS's request for an advisory opinion on elements of its Delivering for America Plan. The plan includes restructuring USPS's processing and logistics network and modifying delivery service standards.
The proposed changes involve consolidating existing Processing and Distribution Centers into new locations, which may be across state lines and far from rural communities. This could result in longer delivery times for these areas.
Congressman Zinke has been actively involved in this issue, having previously led a letter in May opposing the relocation of the Missoula Processing and Distributing Center to Spokane, Washington.
“This is a classic example of decisions coming down from D.C. that just don’t make any sense in Montana,” said Congressman Zinke. “Mail service in Montana is already a logistical nightmare. Sending the Missoula Processing and Distributing Center out of the State will slow things down, add confusion, and lead to more Montanans being unable to receive their mail in a timely manner. Just because it works in Baltimore or New York, doesn’t mean it will work in Ravalli or Lincoln.”
