Two notable alumni from the University of Montana, Steven Rinella and Eric Sprunk, are set to receive honorary doctorates during the UM Spring Commencement on May 10. Rinella will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Forestry and Conservation, while Sprunk will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Business.
Steven Rinella, known for his work as a New York Times-bestselling author and host of the Netflix series "MeatEater," has been influential in connecting society with nature. Randall Williams, a senior editor at MeatEater Inc., praised Rinella for enriching national conversations about wildlife and conservation. Chad Bishop from UM's Wildlife Biology Program highlighted Rinella's impact on hunting ethics and wildlife conservation.
Eric Sprunk, a Missoula native, spent 27 years at Nike Inc., culminating in his role as chief operating officer. Suzanne Tillman, dean of UM's business college, noted Sprunk's ability to foster trust and loyalty within the global business landscape. UM Athletic Director Kent Haslam commended Sprunk for his personal attention to others.
Both Rinella and Sprunk will address graduates at this year's commencement ceremony.
