Glacier National Park has announced a new contract with LC Staffing to provide transportation labor services for the park's shuttle system. | Glacier National Park
LC Staffing of Kalispell, Montana, has been awarded the transportation labor services contract for Glacier National Park by the National Park Service.
The transportation labor services contract will require LC Staffing to staff drivers, dispatchers and supervisors for Glacier National Park's shuttle buses, according to the Flathead Beacon.
“I would like to thank the park staff and the NPS Contracting and Procurement Office for their expeditious work to award this contract following the termination of the cooperative agreement with Flathead County. We are pleased to be working with LC Staffing and providing visitors with such an important service in Glacier National Park,” Glacier National Park superintendent Jeff Mow said in a statement.
Flathead County, the former transportation labor services provider for the park, suddenly left the park's employment in 2019. This put an end to the decade-old partnership the company had with Glacier National Park and sent the park searching for a new transportation labor provider.
The new contract with LC Staffing will last two years.
Glacier Park officials said that they hope they can begin offering hiker-biker shuttle services by Mother's Day, but it depends on if the coronavirus pandemic will allow the park to reopen by then. The hiker-biker shuttle services would potentially be open from Mother's Day weekend until the Going-to-the-Sun Road opens in early summer, but Mow said the park would be following the state's advice on when to reopen shuttle services.
“Glacier National Park will continue to follow the CDC guidelines and other federal, state and local authorities for monitoring the situation related to the novel coronavirus outbreak,” Mow said in a statement. “Decisions on park operations, including shuttle service, will be re-evaluated regularly to ensure the safety of visitors and park employees.”
According to Flathead Beacon, Glacier Park closed in late March until further notice to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Once the hiker-biker shuttle service comes to an end, Glacier National Park would have LC Staffing resume the park's normal shuttle schedule and operations. Shuttles typically run seven says a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until Labor Day.
